Our Story

Like many valuable endeavors, our journey has not been simple—or easy. Building a sustainable reentry program has required persistence, community support, and a shared belief that individuals returning from incarceration deserve the opportunity to rebuild their lives.
About
  • Where It Began
Reentry House Plus began through prison ministry volunteers serving at the Orange County Correctional Center in Hillsborough, North Carolina. Through weekly Yokefellows meetings, volunteers spent time with incarcerated individuals, offering encouragement, conversation, and support. These relationships revealed a consistent need: individuals preparing for release often lacked safe housing and structured support upon reentry.
  • A Vision Takes Shape
In response to this need, a founding group of volunteers began working toward creating a transitional housing program. Reentry House Plus was formally incorporated as a nonprofit organization in December 2019. The early years focused on developing a reentry model, building community partnerships, and securing resources to launch housing and supportive programming. During this period, Reentry House Plus also began offering monthly classes in partnership with Success While In Transition (SWIT), helping lay the foundation for structured programming.
  • Opening the House
By 2021, funding was secured, a home was purchased, and renovations were underway.
In June 2021, Reentry House Plus opened its transitional home in Hillsborough with its first five residents.
This marked the beginning of direct service—providing not only housing, but structured support for individuals reentering the community.
  • Growing the Program
As the organization grew, programming expanded through community partnerships and new educational opportunities. SWIT continued to provide classes and support, and in 2024, Reentry House Plus added a UNC-sponsored health education program, Living Healthy – Chronic Conditions. Over time, the organization also strengthened its internal operations, expanded partnerships, and invested in improvements to better serve residents. In early 2026, Reentry House Plus welcomed its first full-time Program Director, Bobby Harrington, marking an important step forward in organizational capacity and leadership.
